Description
A boxing hotbed for over 100 years, Canastota, New York has a storied boxing history that includes bare-knuckle boxers (1800s), high school boxing teams (1920s - 50s) and two welterweight champions, Carmen Basilio (1955-56, 1956-57) and Billy Backus (1970-71). Basilio also held the middleweight championship (1957-58). The Hall offers exciting exhibits (fist castings, robes, shoes, championship belts, statues, Hall of Fame Wall, and audio/visual stations). The Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend held the 2nd weekend of June is a four-day festival with events held both on-site and at other locations near the Hall of Fame. Thousands of boxing fans from around the world congregate to mingle with over 40 boxing legends and participate in over twenty events including a golf tournament, banquet, and parade. The highlight is the Official Induction Ceremony welcoming the newest members into the Hall of Fame.
