Description
The Jasper County Historical Museum was dedicated May 6, 1979. It is the result of the generosity and desire of many Jasper County residents who wanted to preserve the history of the area for future generations. The museum contains many interesting exhibits utilizing over 8,000 artifacts that have been donated to the society over the years. One of the outstanding attractions near the entrance to the museum is a bas-relief sculpture depicting the history of Jasper County. It is 40 feet long showing four historical periods. It was done by Newton artist Herman I. Deaton with funds made available by the Jasper County Conservation Board and the Jasper County Historical Society. There is an Iowa Native American diorama theater, quilt exhibit and more! There is also extensive agriculture equipment located in the barn.
