Description
The Johnson County Museum of History is housed in a former Masonic temple, built in 1924. The building itself is an artifact and boasts many of its original architectural features, including an impressive 2nd floor auditorium. The museum collection, begun in 1931, includes an 1830s pioneer cabin and maintains over 20,000 artifacts (pre-historic to present), archival documents and photographs relating to Johnson County and the surrounding area. Our genealogy and county history library offers a wealth of research books, archival materials and original documents dating from the county's inception, for historical and family research relating to Johnson County and surrounding regions.
