Description

It would be impossible for us to list all of our collections. Below you will find a few and categories of others. This list will change from time to time, so check back. Our collection consists of tens of thousands of items, archives, and artifacts. Many are on display but most are in storage in one of the four buildings we own. The main museum and displays are in the Ellis building. Just north with a fenced outdoor compound separating them are the aviation building and garage. The open compound is fenced and contains "six-by" trucks (2 1/2 ton military trucks), a "water buffalo" (Large capacity water carriers on wheels), a Huey helicopter, and more. The aviation building and garage house Jeeps, weapon carriers, the ambulance, a Huey helicopter, a Cobra helicopter, and much more. Most of the mechanic work on the vehicles is done there. West, across the street from the Ellis building, are two two-story buildings, built in 1883, which house much of the stored items and artifacts and will become the library. There are uniforms, gear, tools, equipment, etc. Here we also house our Oral History program. The Library of Congress and its American Folklife Center have a "Veteran's History Project" preserving stories and creating a lasting legacy of wartime experiences. We participate in that program and are a repository for the Veteran's History Project. Our program is called the Leave a Legacy Program in which we interview veterans and their families. We provide copies for the interviewee, the Library of Congress and a copy for our archives and use.
