The Field Museum, across from Grant Park at 1400 S. Lake Shore Dr., ranks among the world's foremost museums of natural sciences. Established in 1893, the Beaux Arts-style building houses exhibits consisting of world-renowned collections of more than 25 million artifacts and specimens. The museum serves as an international center for public learning and scientific study of the world's diverse environments and cultures. Exhibits include SUE: The Largest and Most Complete T. rex; Africa; Underground Adventure; Inside Ancient Egypt; and Grainger Hall of Gems. The Crown Family Play Lab is designed for families with children ages 2-6. Evolving Planet illustrates 4 billion years of evolution and includes a dinosaur hall. The Ancient Americas covers 13,000 years of human history in the western hemisphere and features displays highlighting several mighty empires. The Restoring Earth exhibit explores conservation through discovery and adventure.
