Chinese Chippendale

Thomas Chippendale was influenced by the Chinese craftsmen’s designs and styles, which favored lengthy sweeping curves. The combination of Chinese and English resulted in furniture which was enjoyed by many 18th Century people.

Chairs of the Chinese craftsmen, as well as many other pieces, contained much latticework.

Pagoda-shaped tops enhanced cabinets; raised carvings appeared on chair legs; and pieces were enameled, gilded, or lacquered.
