RULE Gallery is pleased to present Gone Green,a group exhibition featuring work by Nathan Abels, Joseph Coniff, Jason DeMarte, William Dalton Frizzell, Jim Green, Caryn Keffer, Suchitra Mattai and Jenny Sharaf.
The exhibiting artists’ work explores the rasp between real and artifice. The paintings of Nathan Abels express the idea that even as our landscapes are disappearing, there remains an innate idea of our basic concepts of nature. Jason DeMarte’s photo collages and Jim Green’s sound recordings create constructed landscapes and soundscapes: artificial environments of pieced-together nature. The paint on paper works of Jenny Sharaf combine natural imagery with synthetic beauty creating seductively instinctive landscapes. The multimedia work of Joseph Coniff provides different perspectives on the changes and disruptions within even our artificial environments. Suchitra Mattai’s and Caryn Keffer’s sculptural works manipulate manmade commodities to create new naturalistic works. And William Dalton Frizzell’s Native American pictorial weaving question our ownership over, and even knowledge of, our land.
