The Social Brain Drain: New Applications of 3D Modeling Technology
November 15, 2015 - June 30, 2016 - Why do some species have bigger brains than others? Do social animals have bigger brains? This exhibition uses modern technologies, including computerized tomography, digital measurement, and 3D reconstruction, to examine MSU research on brain size evolution in mammalian carnivores, a group that includes lions, hyenas, wolves, and wolverines. The exhibit will showcase carnivore mounts and skulls, along with surprisingly beautiful brain images and colorful models that invite a closer look.
