Mythology in Contemporary Art

August 13 - December 31, 2016 - This exhibition describes the stories of passion, ambition, greed, and human suffering in ancient mythologies represent  humankind’s attempts to understand the curious and inexplicable—from astronomy and tumultuous weather conditions  to man’s inhumanity to man and acts of generosity and kindness.  These stories remain as compelling to contemporary artists as when they were first interpreted millennia ago. Included are paintings and works on paper by artists such as Stephen Mueller, Betye Saar, and Bob Thompson.
