May 20–September 18, 2016 - The exhibition will pay special tribute to the concept of the icon, and the fluid definition of that term in contemporary society, particularly in relation to its historical definition. From Annie Oakley to Liza Minnelli and Saint Apollonia, in these prints as in other works, Warhol played on notions of celebrity through the use of the singular iconic image repeated, reproduced, and reversed. The exhibition will highlight these practices and other similar techniques and thematic tendencies that appear throughout Warhol’s oeuvre practices that allowed Warhol to perpetuate and perform some of the most important work of Pop art.
