Aggregate is a granular substance such as sand, crushed rock, or marble dust that is combined with cement to make concrete.  An aggregate changes the texture of the base. It can be added in a mixture to add strength, softness, or hardness of the mix. Artists often add aggregates to plaster for the ease of carving.
