Aquatint an intaglio printmaking technique. It is a variant of etching. A copper or zinc plate that holds ink is marked by the artist. The inked plate is passed through a printing press along with a sheet of paper. This results in a transfer of the ink to the paper. The process is repeated many times, to get the correct hues.
