Backlight Definition

A backlight is a fixed light in the background of an image, a person, or a structure. The purpose of a backlight is to highlight objects so that they are distinguishable from their surroundings. The screen in a computer monitor, a phone, or a tablet is a common example for backlighting. In this technique, light is placed at right angles to an object. It is mainly used in photography and in theaters.
