Cloisonnisme Definition
The term Cloisonnisme refers to a style of painting which was resorted to by the artists of the 19th century. Renowned Artists such as Emile Bernard, Louis Anquetin, Paul Gauguin, Paul Sérusier, belong to this group. The Cloisonnisme features include simple forms, and thick black outlines separating flat colors. The use of thick borders resembles the cloisonne technique used in enamelware to separate different colors. The Cloisonnisme paintings give prominence to emotions than objective reality.
