Contrapposto is an Italian term meaning counterpose. This was established during early Greek period. This is used in visual art and describes a human figure where the hips and legs are positioned in a separate direction from its head and shoulders. It refers to the position where one leg holds most of the weight and there is counterbalancing between hips and shoulder. The sculpture shows a natural pose and is also referred as weight shift.
