EPS is the abbreviation for Encapsulated Postscript. It is a file extension for a graphic file format. An EPS file can contain both graphics and text. EPS refers to a PostScript document which is intended to be used as a graphics file format for the purpose of including images by conforming to the standards laid down by Document Structuring Conventions. Many artworks are saved in EPS format because this type of file preserves most of the graphic elements that is created with Adobe Illustrator. EPS files can be opened and revised as Illustrator files. EPS files being based on the PostScript language can contain both vector and bitmap graphics.
