Hairpin Lace Definition

The word "hairpin" traces the Victorian times. Traditionally, a U-shaped hairpin was used, giving the name hairpin lace. Hairpin lace is a technique used in making lace strips by using a crochet hook and a small hairpin lace loom. A lace is formed by wrapping a yarn around the loom to form the loops, then a crochet hook is used to stitch the loops in the center. By using hairpin lace technique one can make any desired length of lace. These strips can be joined together to make lightweight fabrics like scarves, shawls, hats, blankets and other clothing articles. Hairpin lace is also used for decoration in knitted and crocheted works.
