Jugtown Definition
Jugtown refers to the pottery made popular in North Carolina by Juliana and Jacques Busbee. Though Jugtown pottery was in existence from 1750s, the chance discovery of an orange pie dish by Juliana and Jacques made the pottery famous. They set up a Village store in 1918. Ben Owen was the third potter to work with them. The pottery used red or buff-colored clay available locally for their pieces. The popular Jugtown pottery include jugs, bowls, vases, candlesticks and jars.
