Machicolation refers to a gallery projecting at the top of a castle wall with openings in the floor. The gallery is supported by row of corbels. The opening in the floor is meant to throw stones and boiling liquids is dropped on attackers. The term is used to refer to rows of ornamental architecture consisting of small projecting arches in a row.
