Obverse is the front side or front face of a two-sided object like a seal, medal or coin. Of a two sided object, obverse is the principal side and reverse is its opposite side. Works on two sided paper are also classified as recto and verso for its front and rear sides respectively. For instance, obverse of a coin is commonly called the heads and reverse is called the tails.
