Ratha is a Sanskrit term meaning chariot. In Hindu Temple Architecture, ratha means a vertical offset projection on the tower of a temple. Ratha,also refers to free standing temples of South India, carved in living rock during the Pallava reign in the 7th century. The Pancha rathas of Mahabalipuram are an example for the free standing temples.
