Rosin is a hard and sticky substance which is translucent yellowish to dark brown in colour and derived from the stumps or sap of various pine trees. It is used in making printing inks and for increasing the sliding friction of the bows of violins and other instruments for moving easily across one another. It is also used for making adhesives, linoleums, varnishes etc.
