Scarab Definition

When used in the context of art, scarab refers to the amulets of ancient Egyptian period. This amulet was most popular in Egypt in ancient times because it symbolized the Sun God. Scarabs were molded in the form of a scarab beetle and had religious significance. They came in different forms such as ceramic, cut gem, or sculptured on a stone. Scarabs were also used as seals during the Middle and New Kingdoms.
