The term ‘scroll’ is used to refer to the ancient paper or papyrus rolls containing texts and paintings. Scrolls were widely in use in ancient Egypt. Scroll paintings of  East Asia date back to 4th century A.D. They mostly depict an oriental landscape and teachings of Buddha. Scrolls were of different types, for example, hand scrolls and hanging scrolls.
