Spongeware Definition
Spongeware refers to the 19th century decorative earthenware that was seen produced in places such as Britian, Europe, Scotland and Ireland. It is similar to spatterware. The designs on the pottery were made by daubing cobalt oxide on to the pottery piece using a rag or sponge. Some potters used sponge pieces cut out in different shapes and designs to apply the color on to the pottery piece. Spongewares were seen in attractive colors and in different designs
