Symmetry Definition
In the context of art Symmetry refers to sort of balance where the corresponding parts of the work appears similar. Art, architecture and pottery has a strong relation with symmetry. Taj Mahal is well known for its bilateral symmetry. Potter’s wheel provides rotational symmetry to the clay thrown into it. Paintings of great masters are examples of symmetry in art. The most renowned symmetrical work in painting is Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper, where Christ appears to be at the central of the painting and has 6 Apostles to his each side.
