Tenon Definition
To join two or more pieces of wood, one piece of wood that has a projection fits into a hole cut in the same shape to the other piece of wood. The adjoining pieces connect at right angles. The projection is known as tenon and the cavity cut to which projecting piece of wood is inserted is known as mortise.
Woodworkers have used this technique of joining wooden pieces for many thousands of years.
