Vernis Martin Definition
Vernis Martin is a lacquer substitute that is applied to furniture, coaches, and other personal items. It is a finish for furniture that was first used in the 18th century by Martin family by blending green varnish and bronze/gold powder. This finish is named after the French Brothers Guillaume and Etienne-Simon Martin. This technique was widely used in small objects as well as big furniture of the 18th century. In big furnitures, generally the Rocco contemporary style was followed. The furniture was decorated with motifs and carved panels. Green, red, and black were the popular colors.
