Volute is a term mainly seen used in the context of architecture. It is a spiral scroll like ornament which is commonly found in the capitals of Corinthian, Ionic, and composite orders. The parts of a volute are drawn using a mechanical drawing tool known as French Curve. This was seen used during the Renaissance period and with the Baroque architecture. This ornament was also used as a decoration in silver pieces, ceramics, and furniture designs.
