Arte Povera Definition
In Italian, Arte Povera means “poor art.” It is an artistic movement that began in Italy in the 1960s, where instead of traditional materials like stone and bronze, everyday materials like cement, newspapers, soil, twigs were used to make sculptures. It is a contemporary art movement. It was typically the art works made by daily materials as well as soil, cement etc. Some of the artists associated with Arte Povera include Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, and Michelangelo Pistoletto.
