Carte De Visite Definition
The carte de visite, abbreviated as CDV or cdv, is the French term for visiting card. Such cards with photographic portraits mounted on it were popular during the mid nineteenth century. Also, the term is commonly used to refer to CDV photos, small visiting card size photographs that were patented in Paris, France. These photos were made of albumen print. It was a thin paper photo that was mounted on a paper board that was thicker.
