Bohemianism Definition

The Bohemianism refers to the alternative lifestyle of the creative community during the nineteenth century. This way of life was particularly characterized by anti-bourgeois and anti-intellectual attitude. Bohemianism is an expressive term for a conventional way of life for artists and intellectuals. This term is so used because this way of life was believed to have been like that of apparently rootless Gypsies from the Bohemian region of Czechoslovakia. This mythology still continues to advance luster to the kind of manners and values clearly different from those expected or approved of by majority of society. It is believed that bohemians live in material poverty because they desire for their art or their learning to lesser goods. Further, they are also unconventional in habits and dress, and at times in morals.
