Bunjinga Definition
Bunjinga refers to the Japanese painting of nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Bunjinga artists were influenced by the Chinese literati painting. Bunjinga is also known as Nanga or Southern Painting. The paintings made with ink and light colors depicted landscapes, birds and flowers. They also pictured the “four gentlemen” - plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo. Ike no Taiga (1723-76), Yosa Buson (1716-83) are among famous Bunjinga paintings.
