Carbon is a typical non-metallic element that is seen abundantly in all organic compound. It is  also  seen in numerous inorganic compound.  Graphite and diamond are the purest form of carbon.  It is also the major constituent of petroleum, limestone, and coal.

The term is also used to refer to a carbon paper or sheet that is used by many artists for their work. The image that we get by making marks on a carbon paper is also referred to as carbon.
