Cookie Jars Definition

Cookie jars are decorative glass or ceramic jars used for storing cookies or biscuits. They were also used to store candies, dog treats, and also currencies. These jars first appeared during early 1930s. First ceramic cookie jars were introduced by Brush Pottery Company. McKee Glass Company and Louisville Pottery were the early cookie jar manufacturers. McCoy pottery manufactured the figural Mammy cookie jars. American Bisque manufactured cookie jars like grannies, clowns, animals, chefs, cartoon characters etc. Various other ceramic companies also manufactured cookie jars. Advertising jars formed another category of cookie jars.
