To desensitize someone or something is to provide repeated cognitive or sensory stimulation that would result in a decreased knowledge of those stimulations. In relation to art, teachers engaged in special education use desensitization procedure to gradually introduce new materials or methods to those students who dislike them. When they begin to accept it, the amount and time of exposure is increased. The technique is very much useful to handle defensive students.
