Foil is a thin sheet of metal usually used for packaging. Foil also refers to the reflective coating found on the back of glass mirror. Gems are backed with foil to appear brighter. In architecture the term foil means leaf shaped designs combined with cusps to form lobe. Gothic and Islamic architecture contain foils.
