Grog Definition

Grog refers to a clay that has been fired and ground to fine granules such as powder or chipping. It is also known as fires and chamotte. Basically, it is a ceramic raw material that is high in silica and alumina. The object made by mixing grog with clay, when fired contracts freely when dried. This is because when mixed with clay, it raises its firing temperature and makes it more stable. However, its appearance can be altered too.
