In Situ Definition
In Situ refers to something that is in place or in the original position. It is something which is not moved or shifted from its original position. In the context of art, In Situ refers to an art work that is created on site, rather than at the artists' place/studio. An In Situ is created at the place where it is to be displayed. A rock that is carved is an example of In Situ. An In Situ art work often refer to the surroundings and an artist works keeping in mind the place where it is to be exhibited. Therefore, they may lose context if moved from the original site.
