An intaglio print is an antique print that is obtained using the intaglio printing technique, from a recessed design in a matrix. Intaglio printing is a printing process in which an etched or engraved plate is smeared with ink and wiped clean. The ink left in the gaps is then transferred to paper by exerting pressure. Intaglio printing creates a plate mark, a hallmark of such prints.
