Lapis, also known as lapis lazuli is a semi precious stone used in jewelry, bright blue in color. It is mainly composed of lazurite. Lapis was used by Mesopotamians in jewelry and seals. It was used during Renaissance to make pigment ultramarine for using in frescoes.
