Ming Definition
The term Ming, in the context of art, refers to the period of Chinese dynasty that ruled between 1368 and 1644. The major architecture works of the period included the building of ‘Forbidden City’ in Beijing and the ‘Porcelain Pagoda’ in Nanjing. The painting during Ming dynasty used ink and wash techniques and expressive calligraphic idioms. The most famous art of the Ming period was pottery. The cobalt-blue and white porcelain and sea-green celadon glazed stone ware were exported round the world. Relief sculpture, ivory carvings and goldsmithing also flourished during Ming dynasty.
