Mudra is a Sanskrit word, meaning ‘gesture’ or ‘seal.’ They help in non verbal communication. In the context of art, the term mudra refers to the hand positions and gestures of Hindu deities. The term also denotes the gestures used in Indian classical dances. The ‘asamyukta hastah’ refers to gestures with one hand where as ‘samyukta hastah’ refers to gestures uniting both hands.
