Rectilinear means something which consists of, or characterized by a straight line or lines. In the context of art, rectilinear shapes are used to depict mechanical things made by man. The rectilinear lines are sharp and geometric in nature. Cubism, Futurism, Art Deco and Constructivism have used rectilinear shapes to visualise the mechanized world.
