Renaissance Definition
Renaissance refers to the period between the 14th and 16th century of the European history. During this period there was a drastic transition from the medieval to modern times, when a new interest in science, ancient art and literature originated in Italy and later spread throughout Europe. When used in the context of antiques, the term may be used to refer to the furniture, art work, paintings, or decorative pieces used during this period. Works of Leonardo da Vinci, Brunelleschi, and Michelangelo are examples of some Renaissance antiques. The term 'renaissance' was first used by Giorgio Vasari (1511-74) an Italian artist in his book, 'The Lives of the Artists,' published in the year 1550.
