Resonance Definition
Resonance refers to the quality of a sound, especially produced by a musical instrument, which stays clear, deep and loud for a long time. Resonance, in the context of art, refers to the emotions aroused by an art work. The term refers to the quality associated with a particular art work which keeps it alive in the memory of the viewer. Hsieh Ho, an art historian of the 5th century, sets out spirit resonance, which can broadly explained as transmission of energy from the artist into the work, as a principle of Chinese painting.
