Roycroft Definition
Roycroft is a reformist community formed by the great philosopher, artist and writer, Elbert Hubbard in the United States in 1895. The community consisted of artists and craft workers. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the Roycroft community in New York and East Aurora produced products like furniture, jewelry, embroidery, metalware and leatherwork. Roycroft’s hardware products were often handmade with copper or brass. Products like books and magazines were produced by a printshop with a view to promote the writings of Elbert Hubbard. Roycroft community is also known for its furniture.
