The term Sumida refers to the Japanese pottery of 1800s. The pottery included everyday objects like vases, teapots and bowls. They were made in all kinds of shapes and were usually heavy. Most pieces have three dimensional figure decorations. The upper half of most Sumida pottery is glazed.
