Turpentine Definition

Turpentine is volatile pungent oil used as thinner and solvent by artists. Historically, it is made from resins of coniferous trees, like pine and fir trees. There are various grades of turpentine from pure gum spirit to wood turpentine. One of the substitutes of turpentine is mineral spirit, a byproduct of petroleum. In short, it is referred as Turps.
