Varnish Definition
A liquid which converts into a transparent solid film when applied on a surface. This property of the liquid provides an apparent defensive finish. Varnish is available in various forms such as matte, semi-gloss, and glossy finish. Artists use varnish for dual purposes: as a protective coat, and to give the work a good appearance. By applying varnish, dirt and dust does not get accumulated over the painting. It also evens out the painting’s final look and helps the artists in giving a glossy or matt finish to the work.
